| Description | Article on the history of Mt Victoria from a series called "Experience your neighbourhood." Mt Victoria is one of Devonport's three volcanic cones. Maori knew it as Takurunga, the rock above. The other cones are North Head (Takapuna, the rock with a spring) and Mt Cambria (Takararo, the rock below). A smaller hill, Takamaiiwaho, stood closer to Takapuna but has since been quarried away, as has most of Mt Cambria. Also gives some history of signal station and photograph taken from top of Auckland City. |
