| Historical Notes | A 30 foot kauri log, 18 feet in girth ready for trucking after being hauled out of the bush near Piha. It will provide 6,000 super feet of timber. This will be used in the construction of a new 48 feet A class keel yacht for Messrs N. H. and J. H. Newcombe of Auckland, former owners of the B class yacht 'Lady Wilma'. (J. T. Diamond).
"The last kauri logging operations of any magnitude was in the 1930s and early 1940s when a hauler, located on the side of West Coast Road pulled logs out of the headwaters of the Piha Stream." (Source: Waitakere Kauri by John T. Diamond (1980), p. 44). |
