About The North Shore Library Collections

North Shore Library’s main local history collection can be found in the New Zealand Collection on the first floor of Takapuna Library, and includes a photograph archive, a collection of local history books that may be borrowed, maps, ephemera and vertical files covering the North Shore, a collection of local newspapers and an oral history collection of over 300 interviews of local people.

In addition, each of the local North Shore branch libraries has its own collection of resources about its particular area. Branch libraries are situated at Albany Village, East Coast Bays, Glenfield, Devonport, Northcote and Birkenhead (www.shorelibraries.govt.nz - select Our libraries).

Birkenhead Library is also responsible for managing the Chelsea Archive, an important collection of documents and letters deposited by the Chelsea Sugar Factory when its Head Office was relocated from downtown Auckland to the factory site in Birkenhead.
