He describes the original fire brigade and his work as a fireman. Recalls and describes Miss Ambler's work at the Borough Council (c1933) as a clerk and later Town Clerk. Alick recalls the development of the Glen Eden Recreational Grounds in early 1930s, rugby league games, the Zora Club, Dalmatian and Yugoslav sports teams. He remembers the Levy's growing flowers and problems getting produce to market. He provides details on the Parr family and mentions Ed Parr's Model T Ford. He describes Farley's boarding house at Karekare; railway and bus services for Glen Eden; and orchards including types of fruit. Alick details early migrant life of Austrian and Yugoslav peoples and names many families. He recalls gum diggers, kauri logging, and the maternity home use of 'twilight birth'.
