They describe the old gum diggers and a house built out of kerosene tins. They recall preparations made for a dance, talk about the influenza epidemic and mention local businesses such as the blacksmith, the pickle factory and the cane factory. They recall Routley's goods shed, and describe going to the doctors. Detail herbal remedies for whitlows and lead-poisoning. They remember Nurse Arnold and Sister Esther, and recall the sharing of resources during the Depression. They mention the consumption of alcohol. |
