| Description Summary | Transcript of an interview with Mrs Nairn for the Glen Eden Oral History Project. Mrs Nairn recalls her father growing daffodils and other flowers c1920. She mentions her father Capt W H Sheperd, was the Chairman of the Town Board, and recalls putting on a 'strawberry afternoon'. Recalls the naming of Glen Eden, the cannery, schooling at Oratia and Glen Eden, and the annual flower show. Mrs Nairn describes her father's naval uniform and mentions training during WWI. She mentions the influenza epidemic 1917, and various local identities. She recalls her wages as a milliner, describes the roads, discipline in school, and the variety of apples grown. She recalls her millinery apprenticeship and evening leisure activities. |
