| Description Summary | Transcript of an interview with Don and Jean Mackay for the Glen Eden Oral History Project. Don and Jean recall life in Glen Eden. They recall and detail the police station, school, post office, and railway station. They detail the tablet system which triggered the exchange and recall the events leading up to the accidental death of Mr MacFarlane. They recall Dr Robb and detail the treatment for whooping cough. They recall Ivey Smythe's bullocks, Archibald's mill, coach services to Karekare; the felling of the Lone Kauri and Martin (Darkie) Saunders and work at Astley's Tannery. They describe the Glen Eden library moving and mention Toc H, Miller's Span pig farm, the cricket club, Soloman's cannery, and local utilities. Don recalls being a guard on the train. In a second interview Don recalls working the trains servicing Glen Eden. He mentions types of engines, the train services, Dr Robb and Toc H. The second interview is in transcript only. |
