| Other Notes | Born in Gujarat state, India in 1932, Thakor was raised by his mother and grandparents - his father, Parbhu Patel having already migrated to New Zealand. Thakor and his mother Jamanaben came to New Zealand in 1940 and settled in Glen Eden, where his father operated a grocery shop. A lawyer by profession, Thakor has been actively involved in many groups including the New Zealand Indian Association, the Auckland Regional Ethnic Council, the Federation of Ethnic Councils, the Human Right Committee, Citizens Association for Racial Equality and the Auckland Regional Migrant Centre. |
