| Description Summary | Roopa Suchdev QSM – Vice Chairperson & Co-Founder is a well-known Radio and television personality in New Zealand. Indian born Roopa Suchdev started her career in New Zealand in 1994 after migrating to NZ along with her family, where she started working with Radio Tarana, the first Indian radio channel in New Zealand. Roopa who holds a Masters in Hind Languge from University of Mumbai,India. She talks about her life and growing up in Delhi, KolKutta and Mumbai, where she worked as a lecturer in college along with a part time career as free lance journalist writing for popular Hindi magazines. She also interviewed famous Bollywood stars and personalities during that period.
Her talk shows in Hindi language became very popular among the ethnic migrant audiences of Auckland. She has also been running the famous television show Roopa Aur Aap for over 10 years on Triangle TV.As part of the talk shows, Roopa started to get calls and letters from her Radio and TV audiences about various social and other migration related problems they were facing.She dealt with lot of these issues through her Radio and TV programs.She also started serving as a secretary of Bhartiya Samaj from its inception in 1995 and continues to remain the same till date. Under her guidance, Bhartiya Samaj has become a name taken with pride in every Indian household. Along with being an important part of their events, she has also been instrumental in the formation of the Senior Citizen Association which is an important wing of Bhartiya Samaj. She also does voluntary services like teaching Hindi language at the Indian Language and culture school run by the Indian temple in Sandringham for last 13 years. She has also started Jaagriti Women’s support group under Roopa Aur Aap Charitable Trust. Jaagriti focuses on uplifting the status of women by providing them every resource possible for their development. Right from providing personalized counselling assistance to providing help in areas like Domestic Violence and abuse, she has not left any stone unturned to help out those who are suffering. Overcoming all the hassles on her path, Roopa Suchdev keeps moving ahead starting new ventures to help and support the migrant Indian population of Auckland always believing in making a better tomorrow. |
