'Bob Harvey - Mayor Bob. Bob Harvey has been Mayor of Waitakere City for the past 18 years, re-elected six times. Before entering politics, Mayor Harvey founded and managed a highly successful advertising agency and built a reputation for his expertise running political campaigns. Mayor harvey has published numerous magazine and newspaper articles and is the author of several books.Mayor harvey is President of Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, a life member of the Auckland Surf Lifesaving Association, was awarded the New Zealand Medal for Community Service in 1990 amd was one of only eight mayors in the world to receivea United Nations Mayors for Peace Prize in 1998. His most recent award was the LivCom personal lifetime achievement award in 2008 from the United Nations. He has been a member of the Karekare Surf Club since 1955 and is still an active and patrolling member, holding all the major positions in the club. He is currently the Patron of the club. |
