The set of 18 wall tiles were created by artist Barry Brickell and were originally mounted in the foyer of Devonport Library, where this photograph was taken. After the library was rebuilt and re-opened in 2015, the tiles were relocated to a space inside the new library entrance. They commemorate the ferries that operated passenger and (until 1959)car ferry services ferry services between Devonport and central Auckland. The present (as at 2009) ferry services from the North Shore to Auckland are operated by Fullers. The car service ended after the opening of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. |
