Article describes the history of the Takapuna Racecourse on Lake Road, Devonport, and the founding of the Takapuna Jockey Club on 26 December 1881. There were a number of riding accidents at the course, and it was also used for greyhound and motorcycle racing before its closure in 1934. The racecourse and surrounding land, located off Lake Road between Takapuna and Devonport, is now the site of Alison Park and the Waitemata Golf Course.
