About the Waitakere Newspapers Index

Local History Collection, J.T Diamond Reading Room, Waitakere Central Library

Waitakere Libraries began online indexing of the Western Leader and West Weekly in 2002 and the Aucklander West edition in 2003, when that newspaper began publication. The index records in the Waitakere Newspapers collection are to major articles published after these dates. The index does not provide full text access, but does provide date and page references so the articles can be located in the newspapers themselves. These are held in Waitakere Central Library’s Local History Collection in the J.T Diamond Reading Room (Level 2, Ratanui Street, Henderson). This collection also holds print or microfilm editions of the Western Leader and West Weekly published prior to 2002.

Although articles are only indexed from 2002 (West Auckland) onwards, Waitakere Central Library holds complete runs of the Western Leader, West Weekly and Aucklander: West edition. These may be viewed in the J.T Diamond Reading Room.
